Platyrrhini: New World Monkeys
-Fused mandibular symphysis
-Three premolars
-Orbital closure
-Flat nosed, sideward facing nostrils
-Some have prehensile tail (cebids)
-Tail has tactile pad (like pads on the fingers)
-Tail can grab, reach around branches
-Not all monkeys have prehensile tails, but all monkeys with prehensile tails are NWM
-In Middle and South America
-Diurnal (except Aotus)
-Arboreal—divide the canopy into levels
-Marmosets and tamarins—very small, monogamous (females typically bear twins, both babies together weight almost as much as the mother, therefore father carries one and mother carries other one, father also helps feed, forage, etc), or multimale/one female, eat gum, males take care of children
-Squirrel monkey, howler monkey, capuchins—multimale/multifemale, one male/multifemale, eat fruit or leaves depending on species, some have prehensile tails
